Chris Stapleton Discusses No. 1 Radio Hits, Streaming in New Interview

Country sensation Chris Stapleton gave his thoughts on #1 radio hits during a recent interview with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the Nascar star's podcast Dale Jr. Download.

"I’m just as proud of something that died in the 40s as I am of something that went all the way to #1 because I believed in it," Stapleton, who has had several #1 radio hits himself.

Stapleton went on to say he didn't pay much attention to radio charts, saying "that will drive you crazy."

"It's not worth it," he added.

Stapleton also commented on music streaming and said both were all about "visibility" for musicians.

"I’m not saying it’s not important in any way shape or form… I mean, streams are a different thing," Stapleton said. "Those things are important in ways that they’ve always been important: they are visibility. But it doesn’t change how I make something."

The country star candidly opened up about his Gold and Platinum records he's received, saying it seemed "arbitrary" to him.

"They’re important in that you can say, ‘I have one of those, or I don’t have one of those,'" Stapleton said. "I’m gonna be honest with you, I have a lot of those things, and some of them are wrapped up in boxes for my kids to look at maybe one day.”
