Cowboy Carter isn't country, it's Beyoncé playing dress-up with a genre she has no business in. She's been known for her pop and R&B hits, not for twanging a guitar in Nashville. Yet, here she is, winning awards that should be going to true country artists like Lainey Wilson or Megan Moroney, who've been grinding in the real country scene while Beyoncé was busy elsewhere.
The Country Music Association Awards at least had the sense to snub her album because they understand what country music is supposed to be. But Billboard has clearly lost their way, pandering to the culture of the moment rather than celebrating the roots and authenticity of country music.
It's absolutely absurd to reward someone for dipping their toes into a genre they've barely touched, all in the name of inclusivity. Country music fans are rightfully outraged, and they should be.
What's next, giving a hip-hop award to a country singer. Oh, wait, that'd probably happen too.
