You're not gonna find any high-heeled sneakers or Donna Summer records in this joint, and that "music" you're playing certainly ain't rock and roll or country. Hank Williams Jr. makes that crystal clear in his classic hit "Dinosaur":
He takes aim at the performers, singing, "Gay guitar-pickers don't turn me on" and questioning whether they know any old Hank Williams songs. He even disses disco, saying "these flashing lights sure make me dizzy" and describing a bar that's turned into a spaceship.
Hank may be a dinosaur, but he's a badass one who doesn't take any crap from these newfangled musicians. As he puts it, "I should've died a long time before. Have pity on a dinosaur, hand me my hat, excuse me man, but where's the door?"
With lyrics like "Used to be I had a lotta fun in this old hangout, we'd get stoned at the jukebox and stay outta fights," Hank takes us back to a time when things were simpler and the music had soul. But now, with flashing lights and a disco beat, it's all too much for him: "And you know these flashing lights sure make me dizzy, and this disco's very strange to my ear. It looks like they've turned the longhorn into a spaceship."
But Hank's not alone in his nostalgia for the good old days. "There's a whole lotta dinosaurs, give us our hats, excuse me man, but where's the door?" he declares, speaking for all of us who long for the days of real music and real fun.
