According to the lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, and originally reported on by TMZ, the rapper allegedly "exploded" on Garrett and "hit him in the face" with enough force to send his hat flying off his head.
Garrett claimed that Minaj instructed him to run an errand after her April 2024 concert in Detroit, though upon returning was asked to visit the rapper in her dressing room where she reportedly began "grilling" employees on their job duties. Minaj then "flew into a rage" after learning Garrett had sent another person to retrieve her prescription.
"Are you f***ing crazy having him pick up my prescription?" Minaj asked Garrett, per TMZ. "You have lost your f***ing mind and if my husband were here, he would knock out your f***ing teeth. You're a dead man walking. You just f***ed up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I'll make sure of it."
Minaj continued her verbal assault before allegedly striking his face with an open hand hard enough that his hat flew off his head from the force of her blow.
The rapper then reportedly hit Garrett's wrist hard enough to knock documents out of his hand before telling him to "get the f*** out." Garrett claimed he then locked himself in the restroom of a Little Caesars Arena out of fear for his safety, TMZ reported.
“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty [Minaj’s husband is Kenneth Petty], and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Bernstein told Variety. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
