Seneca Scott Discusses His Political Evolution, Trump's Return on Baste Records Podcast

Seneca Scott is an Oakland-based community organizer with a background in labor activism, known for advocating for working-class empowerment and critiquing political corruption. Scott appeared on Friday's episode of the Baste Records podcast, hosted by Baste Records CEO and founder Matthew Azrieli.

Scott previously ran for Oakland City Council in 2020, and then for Oakland Mayor in 2022.

During the podcast, Scott discussed pivotal moments throughout his political evolution, including his experiene meeting Canadian activist Billboard Chris, who advocates against medical gender transition for minors.

Scott said he initially felt opposed to Billboard Chris' activism, believing it to be anti-LGBTQ, though entertained discussion with him and learned about Chris' mission.

"He starts going through like the real s***, and I'm fascinated," Scott said. "I'm looking on my phone, I'm fact checking him, and I'm like 'yo, this is real. This is dark.'"

"I thought this was about adults making decisions for themselves," Scott said, noting that Billboard Chris said his only concern was for children undergoing medical gender transitions. "You know what, man? Rock on, bro. I support you."

Scott went on to discuss his own cancellation in Oakland, despite holding progressive values.

"I can't stand a deadbeat, and I can't stand a bully," he said, referencing corruption in government.

Scott went on to predict that radical Marxist Democrats wouldn't win another election unless they changed their tune.

"The pendulem swings aggressively during times of societal collapse," Scott said, adding that political commentators like Steve Bannon were true populists advocating for entitlements. "I'm a post-partisan. I don't go left or right, I go up [and] down. Either you have integrity and solutions, or you don't."

Scott described MAGA as a post-partisan movement, adding he didn't consider himself MAGA, though appreciated the sentiment of the movement.

Azrieli suggested that Democrats forced Trump's hand in running for reelection by putting him through a gauntlet of political persecution.

"These people wrote their own demise," he said.

For those looking to understand the pulse of community activism from someone who lives it, Seneca Scott's voice resonates with the truth of lived experience and the hope for a better tomorrow.
