It comes across as a diversity choice for the sake of optics, not talent or respect for the band's legacy. This new vocalist might have some chops, but the attempt to fill Cornell's shoes comes across as an insult to his memory. Soundgarden fans don't want a token replacement, they want authenticity, something this performance clearly lacked.
And if that wasn't enough, they brought in Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan for the jam, turning what should have been a solemn tribute into a rock 'n' roll circus. It's like they forgot what the event was for - helping sick children - and instead turned it into another opportunity to push their west-coast inclusive agenda.
What should have been a heartfelt homage to one of grunge's greatest voices was instead a reminder of how far we've fallen when even charity events are not immune to the woke virus.
The music industry, once about raw talent and genuine emotion, now panders to the lowest common denominator of political correctness. Cornell deserves better, and so do the kids at the hospital. This wasn't a tribute, it was a travesty.
