A pro-Trump rap song, "Trump Trump Baby" by Forgiato Blow, was recently pulled from streaming services due to a copyright dispute involving a Queen sample. The song, which was played at the Republican National Convention (RNC) last week, initially featured a sample from Vanilla Ice’s "Ice Ice Baby," which itself samples Queen and David Bowie’s "Under Pressure."
Sony Music, which now owns the publishing rights to Queen’s catalog, issued a copyright claim that led to the song's removal. Blow tried to re-upload the track with a retooled instrumental, removing the “Under Pressure” bass line, but that was taken down too. Forgiato Blow remains vocal about the obstacles he faces for his political support, stating, "I’ve been banned endless times for supporting Trump."
It seems that there has been all out out attack on Forgiato Blow after the RNC, which his distributors and other platforms removing his content.
Blow's frustration also stems from having previously used the same sample in a 2020 collaboration with Rick Ross and Vanilla Ice titled "Vanilla Sprite Remix" without issue. However, the political context of "Trump Trump Baby" appears to have escalated the situation. Blow remarked, "For some reason after "Trump Trump Baby" was played at the RNC it became a major problem."
The controversy has sparked a conversation about political censorship and the music industry. Blow's message to his supporters is clear, he is fighting a culture war against the woke music machine.
