Trump vs. Harris: First Debate to Battle 2024 VMAs for Viewers on September 10

On Tuesday, September 10, viewers will have a choice to make: watch the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, or tune in to the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Both events are set to air live on the same night, creating a scheduling conflict for those interested in both politics and pop culture.

Trump initially hesitated to participate in the debate, but on August 8, he confirmed his attendance. Vice President Harris responded on social media, expressing her eagerness to face off against Trump. This debate will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis and will air on ABC. It was originally supposed to be the second debate between Trump and President Joe Biden, but with Biden’s recent withdrawal from the race, it now serves as the first and possibly only debate between Trump and Harris.

There’s a possibility of more debates between the two, with Fox News proposing one on September 4 and NBC News hoping to host another on September 25. Harris has indicated that she’s open to more discussions.

Meanwhile, MTV announced the date for the 2024 VMAs back in April, long before the debate was scheduled. The awards show, taking place at UBS Arena in New York, will celebrate nearly 40 years since the first VMAs in 1984.
