Matthew Azrieli has returned to music with “Expectations,” his first new song in seven years—a melodic, string-laced indie folk track that’s both joyful and playfully bittersweet.
His sound, rooted in the traditions of artists like Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, features rich harmonies, poetic lyrics, and a distinctive vocal delivery. It’s a style he’s been cultivating since his 2015 debut EP Chloe, which earned critical praise across the U.S. and Canada.
"Expectations" release is paired with a delightful new music video shot in the Old Port of Montreal by director Joel Karim. The video brings a playful charm that matches the song’s musical structure.
Outside of music, Mr. Azrieli is best known as the founder and first CEO of The Post Millennial, one of the largest conservative news websites in the world. Under his leadership, the platform became home to prominent journalists like Andy Ngo and Libby Emmons. In 2022, he sold the outlet to Human Events Media Group, the parent company of figures such as Jack Posobiec.
Mr. Azrieli also leads Baste Records, which in 2024 alone has had a made a major impact in the music industry. The label released “Fighter,” a Trump-endorsed anthem that hit No. 1 on Billboard.
With “Expectations,” he steps back into the spotlight not as an executive or media figure... but as a songwriter with something to say!
“Expectations” is available now on all streaming platforms—a must-listen for fans of indie folk!
