The duo allegedly kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and strangled Nungaray before discarding her body under a bridge in Texas.
20-year-old Gen Z rapper and political commentator, Chandler Crump weighed in on the matter Friday morning.
"Nothing will bring back Jocelyn Nungaray, but moving for the death penalty is true justice in this case," Crump wrote to X. "We cannot reward violent illegal aliens with life in our country's prisons while her mother mourns."
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg confirmed the decision to pursue capital punishment with Fox News.
"We will be filing notice with the state of Texas that we intend to seek the death penalty against Jocelyn’s murderers," Ogg stated. "We are seeking death because we want the message out there that, regardless of who you are, but especially if you are illegally in this country, that you will face the same consequences as anyone else for murdering a child during the course of raping and kidnapping."
Ogg's decision was made after consultations with Nungaray's parents, who support the move towards capital punishment. The district attorney assured that the choice to seek the death penalty was based on the strength of evidence and the gruesome nature of the crime, indicating confidence in a Texas jury's response to the case at hand.
