Kacey Musgraves, known for her heartfelt lyrics and connection with her audience, has been thrust into a situation that not only violated that agreement but her personal space as well. During what should have been a delightful moment at her Friday night show in Tampa, a fan crossed the line, appearing to grab her as she moved through the crowd.
Although many celebrities maintain a sense of entitlement, this move from one fan speaks more to basic human decency and bodily autonomy. Musgraves reaction, while perhaps not the most polished, was raw and real.
"What the f*ck?" Musgraves appeared to mouth as a female fan grabbed her. "Jesus f*ckinging Christ," she added while continuing her way through the crowd.
Who among us wouldn't react when someone disrespected our personal space?
During the following night's Hollywood, Florida show, the country star called out the fan directly saying, “Last night, this Tampa b*tch ... She kind of ruined it. She kind of ruined it for everybody."
"I thought I was going to have to get real East Texas on her, take off my earrings," Musgraves said. "Florida goes hard.”
On Monday, Musgraves later took to her instagram to further comment on the incident.
"This is not okay and they're lucky I didn't instinctively swing," Musgraves captioned her story with a video of a different angle of the altercation.
"Just because an artist - or any human - is within reach, you have zero right to treat them like an object," she added in another video. "This was aggressive, was dealt with, and will not be tolerated at my shows. I walk out in the space designated for me to safely move through the crowd so I can connect on a closer level. It's fun until someone has to ruin it."
Seeing your favorite artist perform is a magical experience, but no one, regardless of their status, should have to tolerate unwanted physical contact.
