Amid the growing intensity of the 2024 presidential race, with multiple Republicans vying to challenge President Biden, Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore, made it clear to her New Jersey fans that she won't shy away from being political on stage and that she essentially cuts off anyone in her circle who supports Ron DeSantis.
During Paramore's headline performance at the Adjacent Music Festival in Atlantic City, Williams addressed the crowd, expressing her comfort in discussing politics. She boldly stated, "If you happen to support a particular candidate, you can take a hike. I have no problem saying that I'm comfortable talking politics. If you vote for Ron DeSantis, you're dead to me. Is that clear enough for everyone?"
It comes as no surprise that Williams isn't a fan of the Florida governor and his self-proclaimed anti-wok stance. Williams actively participated in the Love Rising benefit in Nashville, which aimed to support LGBTQ organizations in Tennessee. In late February, she took to her Instagram Story to denounce the bills passed by the Tennessee House. Williams emphasizes that children be able to view drag performances, elsewhere referred to as "adult cabaret performances". In her view, minors being exposed to this sexual content is fine because "drag is not a crime". In November 2022, Williams endorsed Beto O'Rourke in the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election.
