Jimmy Levy, a gospel singer who rose to fame during American Idol, caused quite the ruckus a few weeks ago in Miami's Aventura Mall. Along with other attendees, he began to belt out gospel music right in the middle of the shopping center. But things took a turn when the police showed up and escorted Levy to a backroom, reportedly banning him from ever entering the mall again.
Now, I don't know about you, but if this were a protest for some leftist cause, like climate change or Black Lives Matter, would the police have treated them with such disdain? It's a fair question. What's so dangerous about Americans gathering to praise God in a public space?
Perhaps it has something to do with Levy's support for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his songs "Welcome to the Revolution" and "We Will Not Comply," which were popular during the recent freedom protests against COVID mandates. But even then, it seems excessive to ban a man from a mall just for singing.
Regardless, Levy and the rest of the attendees displayed a powerful demonstration of faith, and I applaud their determination to worship. It's just a shame that in today's society, it's becoming increasingly difficult to exercise one's beliefs without facing scrutiny and backlash. What in the hell has happened to our country?
