Grammy Award-winning artist Lizzo finds herself embroiled in controversy as three of her former backup dancers file a shocking lawsuit against her, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and dance team captain Shirlene Quigley. The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, allege sexual and racial harassment, weight-shaming, and a hostile work environment during their time with Lizzo. The allegations have sparked outrage and raised questions about the authenticity of Lizzo's public persona as a champion of body positivity and social justice.
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the most disturbing incident occurred during a concert trip to Amsterdam in February 2023. The plaintiffs claim that Lizzo invited them for a night out that ended in the city's notorious red light district. There, they were allegedly pressured by Lizzo to touch nude performers, catch dildos launched from performers' vaginas, and even eat bananas protruding from the performers' vaginas. Davis further alleges that Lizzo forced her to "soil herself" on stage during an "excruciating" re-audition, fearing the repercussions of excusing herself to use the restroom.
Additionally, Lizzo is accused of weight-shaming her dancers. Davis claims that Lizzo and management questioned her commitment to the tour, which she believed was thinly veiled concern over her weight gain. These accusations are particularly troubling given Lizzo's reputation as a body-positive advocate.
Further claims suggest that the management team at Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., treated Black dancers differently, perpetuating racial harassment within the company. The plaintiffs assert that management accused black members of the dance team of being lazy and unprofessional, creating a hostile work environment for them.
Fans and the public are now questioning the authenticity of her persona and whether it was all a façade. Amidst the bombshell lawsuit filed against her by her former backup dancers, conservative commentator and Baste Records recording artist Chad Prather took to Twitter to express his opinion on the matter.
Prather pointed out that there is a stark contrast in the way the left reacted to Jason Aldean's "Try That In A Small Town" and the silence surrounding the allegations against Lizzo.
Prather's comment highlights the double standards people take based on their ideological viewpoints. The singer's public image as a "woke" artist who promotes body positivity and social justice appears to be at odds with the behavior described in the lawsuit. The plaintiffs' lawyer, Ron Zambrano, emphasized the stark contrast between Lizzo's public persona and her alleged actions, stating, "The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly."
